Studio Texas invites artists from around the world to submit artwork for Threshold, an exhibition exploring moments of transition, choice, and transformation.
We live in a time marked by conflict and uncertainty, yet also by resilience, compassion, and the possibility of renewal. Threshold examines the space between what was and what may be. At this point, division can become understanding, where turmoil can give way to peace, and where the natural world reminds us of both our fragility and our capacity to endure. Threshold represents a moment of choice – when individuals, societies, and even the natural world stand at the edge of change. In times of conflict and uncertainty, these moments ask us to pause, reflect, and decide what comes next.
Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly through personal, social, environmental, cultural, or global perspectives. Whether addressing world events, human relationships, environmental change, seasonal change, spiritual awakening, or quiet moments of individual growth, submitted works should reflect a passage from one state of being to another.
This exhibition seeks artwork that illuminates the choices that shape our future and the hope that emerges when we stand at the edge of change. We all live at the thresholds of our lives. Share your threshold and possibilities. Whether expressed through landscape, abstraction, or figurative work, each piece speaks to a subtle or profound shift that reshapes our understanding of the world and our place within it. We welcome work that challenges, inspires, questions, and ultimately invites reflection on the paths that lead toward healing, balance, and renewal.
Studio Texas’ online juried competition, Threshold, is open to all skill levels, with competition within and across categories. Studio Texas will distribute over $3,000 in cash awards. Selected artists are also eligible for merchandise awards sponsored by art industry leaders. The Best of Show award is a $1,000 cash prize. Approximately 100 selected works will appear on Studio Texas' online gallery for an entire year, be featured in our E-newsletters, and be promoted through Studio Texas’ social media and other promotions.

Accepted artists will receive a certificate of recognition, which will recognize their achievement in earning a place in the exhibition.
This Online Show allows you to enter your best work without the expense of framing and shipping. General members earn one point toward Studio Texas’ Signature Status by receiving a Place Award. Accepted artists will be showcased on our website, studiotexas.org. Award-winning works will be shown on Studio Texas’ Facebook page, and an E-blast will announce the Award winners and accepted paintings to all Studio Texas members and patrons.

*Honorable Mention Awards do not earn points for signature. Awards are about 40% cash prizes.
Entry Fees
- Up to 6 entries, $45 for the first entry and $10 for each additional entry.
- No more than ONE artwork by any artist will be accepted into the Threshold Exhibition.
You may pay online with a valid credit card. Overpayment of any fee will be considered a donation to Studio Texas’ Scholarship Fund.

Exhibition & Restrictions
- Open to all artists, national and international, 18 years of age or older.
- Artwork may be representational or abstract works in 2D and 3D.
- Applications must be submitted from Monday, August 10, 2026, to midnight, Friday, October 30, 2026. Finalist will be announced by Thursday, November 12, 2026.
Eligible Categories
- Painting: Watercolor, Oil, Pastel, Gouache, Acrylics, Egg Tempera, Encaustic, Mixed Media, Batik
- Mixed media is acceptable only if created using acceptable mediums as listed above. Mixed Media cannot include any mediums deemed not acceptable as listed below.
- Drawing: Graphite, Colored Pencil, Charcoal, Scratchboard, Pen and Ink
- Collage
- Printmaking: Intaglio, Serigraph, Block Printing – Describe process
- Fiber Art
- Glass – 3D only
- Ceramics
- Wood
- Metal
- Sculpture – Describe medium/material
- For sculpture and 3D entries, accepted media include cast metal, fabricated metal, stone, glass, wood, and any fired permanent medium such as terra cotta, stoneware, porcelain, or earthenware.
- Printmaking categories include intaglio, serigraph, and reduction block printing.
- Non-acceptable mediums include craft, jewelry, video, digital prints, including giclee, or any work containing computer-generated elements.
- Work(s) must be original. 2D work must have been completed within the last 2 years. There is no required timeframe for 3D artwork.
- All artwork must be the artist’s unique work, original in design and composition. Composition of work may NOT be taken from published work, such as photos from magazines or professional photographers’ prints or digital images, from a friend’s resource, or prints of other artists. The artist must own the copyright to the artwork. No AI artwork is acceptable. All artwork must be executed by hand by the artist.
- By entering this show, artists acknowledge they have full copyright to the submitted work. Studio Texas is not liable for any copyright claim made against an entered work. Artists retain copyright to their image(s).
- If photo reference is used, it must be from the artist’s photos.
- Studio Texas does not condone the use of optical projection.
- All artwork must be originally drawn and not created on top of any photographic or digital image.
- Work(s) must have been created by the artist without supervision or as part of a class or workshop.
- Works(s) may not be a copy or imitation of another work. Any reference provided by an instructor is not eligible, including an instructor-provided photo, still-life setup, or model setup.
- Work may not have been accepted into any previous Studio Texas exhibit.
- Work may only be submitted by the artist entering the show and not by a collector or owner of commissioned work.
- Works may be for sale but are not required to be for sale. Sold works may be entered. Enter NFS in the entry form.
Please note that any prices listed cannot be changed after entry.
- The artist will receive 60% from their sales.
- As this is an online show, there is no size restriction on the work(s) submitted.
Sales
Artwork does not need to be for sale to be entered into the Studio Texas Threshold Competition. However, it is preferred for it to be available for purchase. No more than one (1) entered artwork per artist will be accepted into the exhibition. The artist will receive 60% of the sales price upon sales.
The sales price is determined by the artist.
Shipping of sold artwork is the responsibility of the artist. The cost of shipping will be paid by the artist or buyer.
Disclaimer/Legal
All accepted works and award winners will be displayed on the Studio Texas website: studiotexas.org, Show Submit website: showsubmit.com/galleries, and on our Studio Texas Facebook Page and postings, and Studio Texas’ E-blast to all members and patrons. Failure to meet any of the eligibility requirements will result in the work not being juried. Work that is considered offensive by Studio Texas standards will not be accepted.
No refunds will be given for disqualified works. Acceptance into future shows and/or probation can result from disqualification.
Image Use/Copyrights
The artist retains all copyrights to submitted images and represented artwork. The artists selected to exhibit grant Studio Texas rights to use the selected image(s) on printed material and the organization’s website and social media for promotional purposes only. Studio Texas retains no copyrights to the artist’s work.
Application
The Studio Texas Annual Online Juried Show application process through ShowSubmit will begin Monday, August 10, 2026, and close on Friday, October 30, 2026. The entry form must be filled out in its entirety. List sizes up to the nearest inch. Images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right-side-up. Artists may submit multiple images of 3-D work(s) to show different views of the artwork.

Margaret Roseman: Artist, Juror, and Internationally Recognized Instructor
Margaret is an acclaimed water-media artist, juror, and educator working in watercolour and acrylic. She has taught across North America, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean. The Founder and Founding Director of the Toronto Watercolour Society, she holds signature status with the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour and the Society of Canadian Artists and is an active member of the International Watercolor Society (IWS Canada) and The Federation of Canadian Artists.
Her award-winning work appears in international collections and publications. Recognized for her contributions to the arts community, she has received the Canadian Confederation Medal and two Ontario Volunteer Service Awards and is profiled in Canadian Who’s Who.
Margaret’s paintings interpret rather than record, blending abstraction and representation to evoke nature and everyday life through expressive colour, confident marks, and a deep personal sense of connection.

Image and Filename Specifications
- File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
- Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
- Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
- Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
- File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
- File Size: There is a 30MB maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.
Additional Entry Information
- You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
- After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (October 30, 2026.)
- Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
- Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
