About the Show

The New Orleans Art Association (NOAA) continues its commitment to produce an annual juried National Art Show for artists in the United States. The exhibit will be at The Building Art Gallery in October 2026. Cash awards will be presented for outstanding examples of the accepted artists’ work.

You are cordially invited to participate and submit artwork entries and, if accepted, you should look forward to an exciting and pleasurable event here in New Orleans.

The Art Association of New Orleans dates back to 1887 and is one of the oldest art organizations in New Orleans. Please visit our website, noartassoc.org, to view our history in supporting and encouraging the development of fine art in New Orleans and Louisiana.

Requirements

Please read all instructions carefully.
  • A maximum of five (5) pieces of artwork may be submitted per artist.
  • Diptychs and triptychs are eligible and count as one submission. No more than three consecutive panels will be considered. Submit them in correct order in one photograph.
  • Artwork must not have been displayed in any previous NOAA national show.
  • Artwork shall be original in design, concept, and execution, created without supervision or instruction, by the submitting artist, and completed after January 1, 2023. We are not obliged to notify the artist of works that are submitted outside of the acceptable timeframe.
  • All reference photos must have been taken by the artist. No copies of another artist’s work are allowed.
  • The artist must be eighteen years of age or older, and a citizen of the United States, at the time of entry(s) submittal.
  • The artwork shall consist of two dimensional (2D) works only.
  • Acceptable media shall be limited to paintings (oil, acrylic, encaustic, pastel, and egg tempera), water media, and drawings (graphite, conte-crayon, colored pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, and scratchboard.
  • Non-acceptable media includes collages (no attached or glued on elements), montages, reproductions, prints, crafts, photography, videos, jewelry, three-dimensional (3D) works, textiles, fiber art, and any computer-generated elements including work generated or assisted by artificial intelligence (AI). No full-frontal nudes.
  • No painting or duplicate painting may be submitted to another exhibition – in-person or virtual — that overlaps with any part of the NOAA Exhibit.
  • The accepted artwork must be ready to hang. It must be dry and prepared with wire and D-rings or screw eyes. No sawtooth hangers.
  • Gallery-wrapped submittals (minimum 1 1/4 inches deep) will have all edges finished/painted and all staples, hooks, etc., not visible on any edge. Artwork may not exceed 60 inches in width and 80 inches in length, including the frame. Artwork, excluding frame, may not be smaller than 8 inches in length or width. The maximum weight is 25 pounds.
Artwork that does not meet these eligibility criteria will be excluded from the show and refunds will not be issued. The artist will be responsible for arranging retrieval.

Juror and Judge

Carrie Waller
Carrie Waller is a watercolor artist working in a realistic, detailed style. Her studies in Interior Design and Graphic Design as well as her time spent living in Europe an Asia have influenced her as an artist. Carrie currently works from her Arkansas studio after recently moving back from Tokyo, Japan where she resided for over 8 years. Her unique works are bold, vibrant and dramatic.

Carrie has won numerous awards and has been published in many publications including the Watercolor Artist Magazine, The Art of Watercolor, Pratique des Arts, Artist's and Illustrators, International Artist’s Magazine, American Art Collector, Southwest Artist’s Magazine and Splash, The Best of Watercolor series, 14 and 16 through 24. Her works have exhibited all over the world most recently at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Kyoto Kyocera Museum, and the Hiroshima Prefectural Museum. She has also exhibited in Thessaloniki, Greece, Fabriano, Italy, Santa Marta, Colombia, London, England, Shenzhen, China, Brussels, Belgium, and the Salmagundi Club, New York. Carrie won the $10,000 Grand Prize in the American Women Artist's 2020 Museum Competition. She is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, American Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Louisiana Watercolor Society - Master, Mid-Southern Watercolorists and the Watercolor Honor Society. She teaches workshops, online and in person, and is an ambassador for Daniel Smith Watercolors. Carrie is currently the Vice President and Awards Director for the National Watercolor Society.

Entry Fee

  • NOAA Members: $40 for up to 3 works. $10 each additional.
  • Non-Members: $50 for up to 3 works. $10 each additional.
  • Up to 5 works.
ShowSubmit will notify the artist after the entry fee has been processed successfully. There will be no refunds after the entry fee is submitted.

Awards

A maximum of 80 artworks will be exhibited. Cash and ribbons will be presented:
  • First Place: $2,500 + Ribbon
  • Second Place: $1,250 + Ribbon
  • Third Place: $750 + Ribbon
  • Honorable Mentions: $100 + Ribbon
Additional Merit prizes may be awarded as deemed appropriate by the judge.

Show Catalog

One catalog will be provided to each entrant depicting sponsor acknowledgements, entries, awards, and recognitions. Additional copies will be available at the opening reception.

Workshop

This year’s Judge, internationally known artist Carrie Waller, will instruct a watercolor workshop October 1st and 2nd in conjunction with the 2026 National Show. The Fee is $250 for NOAA members and $275 for nonmembers and the workshop will be held in Harahan, LA. Shipping and Delivery

Hand delivery
Accepted artwork may be hand-delivered to The Building, 1427 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd, N.O. LA 70113 on Monday, September 28, 2026 between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Deliveries prior to or after Monday, September 28, 2026 will not be accepted.

Shipped artwork
The artist is responsible for handling and shipping costs to and from the show. Artwork that requires handling and shipping should be delivered by your preferred shipper to the receiving agent, A-Plus Packaging. Shipping instructions will be provided with each acceptance notification. In addition, A-Plus Packaging will require a handling fee of $75 per painting. All accepted artwork shall remain on exhibit for the length of the show, including any sold items.

Artwork Pickup

Retrieval of hand-delivered items is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at The Building, 1427 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Return instructions for shipped artwork will be provided in the acceptance notification.

Sales

All accepted artwork must be offered for sale. A commission of 30% of the sales price shall be retained by The Building. Prices must remain fixed, and any pieces sold must remain in the exhibit until the final close of the show. Sales personnel will be available during the show days and hours.

Liability and Insurance

Insurance for artwork is the responsibility of the artist. NOAA and The Building assume no liability for any loss, theft, and/or damage to the artwork prior to, during, or after the exhibit.

Use of Images

Permission to use the submitted images for purposes of marketing and promotion directly related to this exhibit shall be implied by submittal of the entry. Copyright and other legal rights remain the property of the artist.

Additional Notification Information

Notifications will be emailed and posted in your ShowSubmit account by the end of the day on August 12, 2026.

If you do not receive your email, login and view the notification in your account. We cannot respond to inquiries regarding the status of notifications.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
  • Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
  • Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
  • Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
  • File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
  • File Size: There is a 30mb maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (August 3, 2026.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
