Artist Eligibility

  • All PSSC members in good standing and who have paid dues in full (dues run from Jan 1 – Dec 31) are eligible to participate.
  • Dues may be paid online on the Pastel Society of South Carolina website prior to the show; you may also join as a new member and be eligible to enter once dues are paid.

Entry Fees

  • Members only: $40.00 for the first two (2) entries, $10 for one additional entry.
  • Each member will be allowed up to three (3) entries.
  • All fees must be paid through ShowSubmit upon registration. No checks or late entries will be accepted at drop-off.

Exhibit Rules

  • Since this exhibit is in a physical rather than virtual location, submitted works cannot exceed 48” as the longest dimension.
  • Works must be in soft pastel, no oil pastels accepted.
  • All artwork is to remain on display until the close of the show.
  • Neither the PSSC nor the venue are liable for any damage to or theft of artwork.
  • Only visual fine arts in the form of paintings and drawings are acceptable for PSSC exhibitions or shows.
  • Decorative, computer generated, or any other electronically assisted works are not acceptable.
  • Artists may not submit designs created using Artificial Intelligence (AI) software. Works created using AI will be disqualified.
  • Original artwork only.
  • Works previously entered in JUDGED PSSC shows and exhibitions are not eligible.
  • Works previously entered in JUDGED PSSC shows and exhibitions and have been “reworked” are not eligible.
  • All artworks must have been created in the last two (2) years. No work done earlier than April 27, 2024, is allowed.
  • All artworks should have quality framing and no “sawtooth hangers.”
  • All paintings done in a class or school, online demos, “follow along” or YouTube videos, online courses, school-monitored studio, workshops, under instructor supervision or copied from published photographs or photographs made by someone other than the artist or painted over mechanical reproductions are ineligible and will be rejected.
  • All subjects and styles are eligible, from traditional to contemporary. Artwork must be predominantly (80%) soft pastel. Exhibitors must have full copyright to any piece submitted.
  • The PSSC Board of Directors, Exhibition Chairperson (s), committee members, and gallery staff will have the right to reject any work deemed inappropriate or in violation of any rule at any time. By exhibiting in this show, you accept any and all liability for damage to or loss of your work. Neither the PSSC nor the venue offer any form of liability coverage for your work.
NOTE: Any violation of the prospectus/exhibition rules/guidelines will result in the removal of the artwork from the exhibition, loss of any award, ribbon and awarded Signature Points (if applicable), loss of entry fees, and suspension from entering the next two judged exhibitions/shows. The Exhibition Committee is empowered to accept or reject pieces. Any subsequent challenge will go to the PSSC Board for a final decision.

Submission of Artworks

All entries will be done online via ShowSubmit. The prospectus will be available for download on ShowSubmit and also on the Pastel Society of South Carolina website. Please attach the labels to the back of your painting (s) in the upper right corner. Bring your entries with the title card attached to the back to Old Santee Canal Park on Friday, May 1 from 10 am until 2 pm.

Publicity Images

Six (6) high resolution images of artwork (which will be in the exhibition) will be needed for postcards and publicity. The first six images received will be considered. Submit images to [email protected] by April 4, 2026

Reception and Awards

An opening reception will be held on Sunday May 3 at Santee Canal Park Interpretive Center from 3 pm until 4:30 pm. The awards will be announced and presented at the reception.

Workshop

An in depth two day portrait workshop will be offered by renowned pastel artist Luana Luconi Winner on Monday May 4 and Tuesday May 5, details to follow.

In addition to Division awards, the Founder’s Award at $150 and three Honorable Mentions will be presented.

Winner of the Founders Award, 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place winners will each receive one (1) Signature Point

Pick up

Sunday, May 31 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. NOTE: All artwork must remain on display until after the show. If you cannot pick up your painting, please plan for someone else to do so. Storage is not available, and therefore all artworks must be removed.

Artwork Sales

All sales will be the responsibility of the artist. Neither Old Santee Canal Park nor PSSC receive any commission from the sale of artwork. Be sure that your contact information is updated so you can be contacted in the event of a sale.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
  • Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
  • Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
  • Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
  • File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
  • File Size: There is a 30mb maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (April 27, 2026.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
