Call for visual artists residing in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee in painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and new media. Over $10,000 in prizes are awarded annually.

Eligibility

Open to current or former in residents of Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee, submitting original artwork completed the last two years (2024 – 2026) that has not been previously exhibited at the Swope Art Museum.

Awards & Sales

Over $10,000 in prizes are awarded annually. Awards will be announced during the opening reception, 5-8 PM, Friday, October 2, 2026.

Meet our Juror

Mark Pascale is a lithographer who has been active in the Chicago art world for over forty years, as a curator, researcher, and teacher. Currently, he is the Janet and Craig Duchossois Curator in the Department of Prints and Drawings at The Art Institute of Chicago, and concurrently Senior Lecturer in Print Media at the School of the Art Institute. He has an impressive record of exhibitions and publications, most recently for the exhibition catalogues Christina Ramberg: A Retrospective, Lygia Pape: Tecelares, Joseph E. Yoakum: What I Saw, Hairy Who? 1966–1969, Charles White, Along the Lines: Selected Drawings by Saul Steinberg, Martin Puryear: Multiple Dimensions, Contemporary Drawings from the Irving Stenn Jr. Collection, and Jasper Johns: Gray. Currently, he is working on exhibitions featuring the work of Beatriz González, Gladys Nilsson, and Jim Nutt.

Submit artwork

  • Be specific when describing entries on the entry form. Include support (i.e., canvas, panel, paper, ceramics, etc.). Include edition #s and processes used (i.e., lithograph, intaglio, silver gelatin, digital) for prints and photographs.
  • Submitted images must accurately represent the artwork submitted.
  • One image for 2D; two views for 3D.
  • Images must be rotated for correct orientation.

Entry Fees

  • Museum Members: Free entry, up to 5 artworks

  • Non-Members: $40 for up to five artworks.
Entry fees are non-refundable.

Entry Specifications

  • Deadline for entries: Friday, July 10, 2026 by 11:59 pm mst
  • Maximum dimensions (including frame) of 2D works not to exceed 6’ in any direction.
  • Maximum dimensions of 3D art not to exceed 6’ x 3’ x 2’ or consist of more than 25 pieces. No individual component may exceed 6’. Total weight cannot exceed 100 lbs. The artist must be available to assist with the installation of works weighing over 30 lbs.
  • No ceiling-mounted works. Works requiring special handling must include information with the original entry. All installation materials must be included with the work, and clear instructions for their use.
  • Digital media entries must be .MP4 format, 1920 x 1080 pixels on a USB drive.
  • Notifications of inclusion/not included by July 24.
  • Included entries must be RECEIVED by August 14.
  • Ship artworks to: Swope Art Museum, 25 South 7th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.
  • By-hand deliveries must be made during museum open hours, NOON – 4 PM, Tuesday – Sunday.
  • Return shipping label must be included with shipped artwork.
  • Artwork will be returned in original packing material. NO Styrofoam peanuts or similar packaging.

Responsibilities & Disclaimers

  • By submitting, you grant the Museum non-exclusive license to use images of selected works for promotional purposes on their websites, social media platforms, and in non-commercial publications. You also understand that works might be photographed by the public during the exhibition.
  • It is the responsibility of the artist to transport and insure works in transit to and from the venue.
  • Work must be shipped in reusable containers and include return shipping labels.
  • All works will be insured by the Museum while on display for their estimated value. If no value is provided, the Museum will insure the work for $50.
  • Works must be installation-ready with D-rings or similar adjustable hanging hardware; no saw-tooth plates. Click here for hanging hardware instructions!
  • No glass glazing!
  • The Museum reserves the right not to display work deemed difficult to install, in sub-standard frames, or not accurately represented in the entry documentation.
  • The Museum reserves the right to reject any artwork due to inadequate preparation or for potential security or public safety issues.
  • Work will be returned to the address listed on the loan contract unless otherwise instructed. Include prepaid postage for the return.
  • Work not collected within 30 days of the close of the exhibition will be deemed an unrestricted gift to the Museum and the Lender hereby authorizes the Museum to proceed accordingly.
  • The Museum will take a 30% commission on sales. Purchase awards are subject to a 10% commission.

Notifications will be emailed and posted in your ShowSubmit account by the end of the day on July 24, 2026.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
  • Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
  • Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
  • Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
  • File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
  • File Size: There is a 30mb maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (July 10, 2026.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
