Juror

Barbara Schilling, barbaraschilling.com

I have been studying art my whole life. There has never been a time in my memory when communicating through my art was not important to me.

For over 30 years I dedicated my time in my career to restoring and conserving other’s art treasures. It was a very rewarding career, but now it is my time to share my own voice in my art.”

Art is my way to reconnect to the solitude and beauty of the nature that surrounded me as a child, and I want to share that with others. It is so beautiful to look at a painting and feel so connected to the energy that lives within it. The presence can be so strong it can move you to laughter or even to tears.

I love bold brushwork and strong textures in my painting because they can be so expressive of the mood that I am trying to convey.

Art is an emotion, a message, a dialog with the viewer. A painting can go beyond surface beauty and take you to a memory, a fantasy, or a dream!

Ms Schilling is a signature member of OPA and AIS.

About Indiana Artists Club

We are extremely proud to be exhibiting in our 109th year, 2026! The Indiana Artists Club, Inc. (IN/A) was organized as the Indiana Art Club on January 23, 1917, by a group of forty-six artists and patrons including such notables as T.C. Steele, William Forsyth, Otto Stark, Carl Graf, Wayman Adams, Simon Baus, Marie Goth, Frederick Polley, Clifton Wheeler, Randolph Coats, Carl Lieber and Alex Holiday. A few months later the name was changed to the Indiana Artists Club, Inc. to more nearly represent an organization of professional artists rather than a group of persons interested in art.

Early exhibits were held in the Union Trust Building and traveling exhibits were sent to various colleges and public buildings over the state. The Indiana Artists Club has originated cultural and educational projects including fine arts in the high schools, donations of art books to colleges, preservation of the T.C. Steele Memorial and murals at Wishard Hospital. The Club was instrumental in bringing the Hoosier Salon of Chicago to Indianapolis.

From 1935 through 1989, the Indiana Artists Club exhibited annually at the L.S. Ayres and Company Auditorium in downtown Indianapolis. The University of Indianapolis then hosted the exhibition in 1990 and 1991. The Annual Juried Exhibition moved to the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields in 1992.

The Membership Chair and the Executive Board, who consider the works and record of each applicant, determine active membership. To apply to become an active member, it is necessary to have been born in Indiana or to have lived here for two years and to have been accepted into three differently sponsored exhibitions with out-of-state judges with three separate works of art.

Further information may be obtained from the Membership Chair, IN/A, 2727 E. 55th St, #20688, Indianapolis, IN 46220 or from the website: www.indianaartistsclub.org
