About the Auction
Exhibition Requirements
- Salmagundi Members Only
- All mediums accepted.
- Artists may submit 2 works for consideration.
- Only work not previously offered at Salmagundi auctions will be accepted.
- Artists are responsible for submitting images with accurate representation of their work. All submitted images are assumed to be images of the completed piece.
- Outside dimensions of frame may not exceed 28” in any direction.
- Sculptures should be no more than 28” high and no more than 40 lbs.
- All works must be professionally framed with wire for hanging. If framing is not applicable to your work, it needs to be professionally presentable for exhibiting in a gallery space with appropriate mounting to hang or display.
- If displaying the artwork under glass, it’s recommended that artists use plexi-glass to avoid breakage. The Salmagundi Club is not responsible for broken glass damage.
- Accepted work will remain in place during the exhibition and cannot be removed until it ends.
Pricing and Bidding
- Each artist must set their own fair market price for each piece submitted.
- The opening bid will be 1/3 of the market price set by the artist, rounded up to the nearest bid increment. Bids increments start at $25, increases to $50 if price is above $500, increases to $100 if price is above $1000, increases to $200 if price is above $2000. ie. If the artist submitted a market price of $1200, the opening bid announced by the Auctioneer will be $400.
- It is imperative that each artist set a reasonable market price for his or her work, as these auctions are fundraisers for the Club. 50% of the selling price goes to the Club, and 50% goes to the artist.
- There will be no protective reserves other than the opening bid established by the artists’ market price.
- Artists will be notified by Salmagundi’s administrative staff when a sale is made.
Consent Questions
- Do you consent to allow the auctioneer to sell your art below the opening bid with discretion? Artists will still receive credit for 50% of the agreed upon opening bid if this occurs.
- Artists have the option of donating all proceeds from the sale of their work to support Salmagundi. Otherwise, only 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Salmagundi.
Submissions
- Framed images are not required for submission. If accepted, the option to submit extra shots of your work will be available via a separate form that's included in the acceptance email.
- Artists are able to edit their own entries during the entirety of the submission period through ShowSubmit. After the submission deadline, changes to your submission entry will not be accepted.
- Submissions not adhering to the Exhibition Requirements will be omitted. The decision of the Art Committee as to placement and installation is final.
- Acceptance / Rejection emails will be coming from ShowSubmit. If you do not receive yours by the acceptance notification date, please login and check your ShowSubmit account notifications.
Shipping & Delivery
- If accepted, the artist has the option of delivering the work in-person at the Club during our receiving days.
- If shipping the work to the clubhouse, to accommodate the possibility of shipping delays, the artist should ship with an expected arrival date of the noted receiving dates above.
- The artist must include a prepaid return shipping label from a shipping provider (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.) when shipping their work to the club. This is required to ship the artwork back to the artist after the exhibition ends.
- All accepted works must include the hangtag PDF attached to your acceptance email. The PDF must be printed and filled out. One tag is attached to the back of the work. The other is taped to be visible when the work is first hung. This second tag is temporary to ensure accurate identification after the work is hung and is removed when the actual
gallery labels are added. - After acceptance, works being shipped must be sent in reusable shipping boxes for art, with the name of the exhibition on the outside of the package. Salmagundi members receive 10% off Air Float boxes. Contact [email protected] for the member’s discount code.
- All works being shipped or dropped off MUST be labeled on the outside of the packaging with the name of the exhibition, The name of the artist, and the titles of the works enclosed.
