Jury Process

    Judi Gilden,

"The magic is not in how skillfully we use the brush or manipulate the paint. The magic is inside each of us. It is a true delight to watch people develop skills and then create their own magic."

Judi Gilden is an award winning artist who lives and works in Marlboro, New Jersey. Using traditional transparent watercolor, as well as casein and mixed water media, she creates a sensitive blend of art and spirituality in her paintings. Ms. Gilden’s educational background includes Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Philosophy and two NYC teaching licenses.

Judi Gilden has been working in water media for over 40 years and has studied with some of the greatest watercolorists of our time. Judi shares these many years of instruction and experience with beginning, intermediate and advanced students of watercolor. She has taught pre-kindergarteners and senior citizens, special need adults, every age and every skill level. She is an understanding and encouraging instructor, and the “Principles” and “Elements” of Design are a major factor in her lessons and demonstrations. It is perhaps for this reason many of her former and current students have gone forward to exhibit, win prizes in juried shows, and become watercolor instructors themselves.

Judi’s paintings have been in numerous juried shows, winning many awards. She has been published many times, including three issues of ART IN AMERICA GUIDE: Museums, Galleries, Artists, and a feature in THE ARTISTIC TOUCH 6 Watercolor Series.
  • Each entry is reviewed and scored on the quality and individual mastery of each medium as well as the composition and design of the work.
  • Jurors score the image and do not see any information about the artist.
  • Images not displayed right side up or without proper cropping will not be juried. Jurors make selections based on the digital image(s). Make certain the image(s) submitted are an accurate representation of the work. Work misrepresented by the submitted image(s) will not be shown.

AAPL Signature Member Jim Hallenbeck

Jim Hallenbeck, jimhallenbeckfineart.com

"My artistic journey is an exploration of the captivating interplay between realism and impressionism, with a profound focus on the evocative power of color. My foundation is built from the instruction I have received in numerous workshops, most notably the workshops with my teacher, mentor, and friend Albert Handell. Through my art, I aim to transport viewers to the very heart of the subjects I depict and create a captivating synergy that draws the viewer deeper into my artwork."

Jim Hallenbeck was raised with art in Catskill, NY, majoring in Fine Arts at SUNY Plattsburgh, and obtaining a BS in Art Education from Florida International University of Miami in December 1979. His dream of being an art instructor then artist, however, was put on a 35 year hold in favor of a corporate career with IBM, then Lenovo. Jim continued to paint through the years as time allowed. As a retired Vice President he is pursuing his lifelong dream of being an artist. Jim's oil paintings include primarily landscapes, city scenes, and local Raleigh landmarks. Jim has taken workshops from nationally recognized artists such as Nicole Kennedy, Dan Beck, Dawn Whitelaw, Derek Penix, and 13 with Albert Handell (mentor, teacher, and friend). He is a studio artist of Artspace in Raleigh, NC, and a contributing artist of the Mattie King Davis Gallery in Beaufort, N.C. He has been juried in over 75 local and national exhibitions winning numerous awards.
