Theme and Eligibility

  • This is an open call opportunity for any artist working in soft pastel.
  • Work must be a minimum 80% soft pastel.
  • No oil pastels or varnished dry pastels will be accepted.
  • Work must be framed, glazed and ready to hang. Work not ready to hang may not be included in the show.
  • No saw tooth hangers or clip frames are allowed.
  • Sales: All work must be FOR SALE. Sales will result in a 65/35 split with 65% going to the artist and a 35% commission to LARAC. There will be no price changes after submissions close.
  • Original pastel artwork only. Paintings executed in a workshop under another artist’s supervision are not eligible.
  • Paintings must have been completed in the last 3 years.
  • Entries must not have been previously exhibited in any prior APS Annual National Juried Exhibition or other national exhibition.
  • Withholding: Once accepted, works cannot be withheld from the exhibition under a penalty of a two-year exclusion from future juried APS exhibitions.

Awards

  • Best of Show: $1,000
  • Second Place: $400
  • Third Place: $200
Additional cash and merchandise prizes will be awarded.

Nonrefundable Jurying Fee

  • $35 for two images
  • $45 for three images
  • A maximum of 3 pieces may be submitted for jurying.

Jurors of Selection & Awards

Jane McGraw-Teubner PSA-MP

Jane is a Signature Member/Master Pastelist, Pastel Society of America and a Master Circle Recipient, International Association of Pastel Societies. In 2020, she became an Eminent Pastelist with IAPS. She was on the cover, Plein Air Magazine, with a 5-page article, Oct/Nov 2017. She is included in “Pure Pastel” a nationally published book about pastels released in 2019. In 2014 and 2015, she was invited to be a demonstrator and a field artist at the Plein Air Convention held in Monterey, CA, hosted by Plein Air Magazine. Jane’s artwork has been featured on the cover of the 2013 December issue of The Pastel Journal along with an 8-page article.

She was featured Artist December 2017: Huntington Times News, ny.

Jane is a resident artist in the Salmagundi Art Club, New York, NY and is on the Board of Directors for The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club. She taught pastel painting at The Teaching Studios of Art in Oyster Bay, NY from 2009-2018 and presently teaches at her home in East Northport, NY and at the Atelier at Flowerfield, St. James, ny.

Notification

Artists will be notified of jury results by Friday, May 29, 2026. Prizewinners will be announced at the reception on Friday, July 10, 2026, between 5 to 7pm.

Note: If an accepted painting is not delivered by the required date of the show there will be a two-year ban imposed on entering any additional APS Exhibition.

Publicity

The Adirondack Pastel Society and LARAC will publicize the show and reception regionally via email marketing, paid print advertising, press releases, website and social media promotion.

Commission

LARAC will collect a 35% commission for artwork sales. The artist will receive 65%. Artists' checks will be mailed in August.

All work must be for sale.

Liability

Each work is insured to a reasonable amount while in the care of the Lapham Gallery. Items will be handled with the utmost care. Artists are responsible for shipping to and from the Gallery and for insuring work while in transit. Artists are also responsible for providing work that is sturdy and durable for necessary hanging purposes.

Photography

The artist agrees to allow LARAC to photograph works for promotional purposes.

Artwork Drop-off

Accepted work can be hand delivered to the Lapham Gallery on the following dates:
  1. Thursday, June 25th between 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
  2. Friday, June 26th between 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
  3. Saturday June 27th between 10 am and 3 pm.

Shipped Works

  • Shipped works must be packed in a ULINE art shipping box or a Strong Box/Air Float shipping box or similar.
  • There is a $20.00 handling fee per artist for all shipped work. Shipping instructions will be sent with the acceptance letter.

Artwork Pick-up

Unsold hand delivered artwork must be picked up from the Lapham Gallery on the following dates:
  1. Thursday, August 6th between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm
  2. Friday, August 7th between 10:00 am and 3:00pm
  3. Saturday, August 8th between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm at the latest.
All unsold shipped work will be returned the week of August 10, 2026.

Shipped entries must include return shipping paid for by the artist. All shipping is the responsibility of the artist.

About the Exhibition

Adirondack National Pastel Exhibition 2026 is the 12th annual pastel show and will be held at The Lapham Gallery, which is the premier gallery in the downtown Arts District of Glens Falls, NY larac.org/lapham-gallery

Notifications will be emailed and posted in your ShowSubmit account by the end of the day on May 29, 2026.

You may view the notification in your ShowSubmit account by logging in and tapping the Notifications at the top right of the screen, or in your Entry History.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
  • Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
  • Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
  • Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
  • File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
  • File Size: There is a 30mb maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (May 11, 2026.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
