Eligible Work

Please read carefully to make sure your work meets the following entry requirements.
  • Works must be in dry pastel. No oil pastels. Mixed media must be predominantly dry pastel.
  • The top layer of the painting should be at least 80% dry application of pastel.
  • Work must be original, not copied from other artists or published materials and from your own reference. Any reference provided by an instructor is not eligible, including an instructor-provided photo, still life setup or model setup.
  • Work that was done in a classroom or workshop scenario is ineligible.
  • All artwork must be originally drawn and not created on top of any type of photographic image.
  • Paintings of nudes will be considered for acceptance.
  • Work may not have been accepted in any previous IAPS Exhibitions. This does not include IAPS Member Society shows (see details below).
  • Work may be for sale. NFS is acceptable.
Failure to meet any of the requirements for eligibility may result in the artwork not being juried.

Artwork submitted and accepted into this show that has been shown in a previous IAPS exhibition will be rejected and one honors point will be taken from the point total of the Artist. If this is a second infraction, the Artist will receive a two-year ban on entering future IAPS shows.

IAPS reserves the right to exclude from exhibitions any artwork deemed offensive, or any artwork that violates the laws of the United States, or of state or local governments.

Jurors

For this exhibition, we will be using the following jurors:

Juror: Ray Hassard was born in Freeport NY in 1949. He grew up in the New York City area and studied at Pratt Institute. After moving to Buffalo NY in 1977, urban landscapes became his primary artistic theme. He and his husband have lived in Cincinnati, OH since 1985. Ray is a Signature member of the Cincinnati Art Club, National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (NOAPS), and the Pastel Society of America; MidAmerica Pastel Society has designated him Master Pastelist. He is a charter member of the Ohio Plein Air Society. In 2019 he was named Eminent Pastellist by the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS).

Juror: Contemporary American Realist Natasha Isenhour expresses her emotional response to unpopulated spaces with an edgy lonesome starkness that defines the very essence of her work in oil and pastel. Isenhour exhibits throughout the southwest and teaches 4-6 workshops/year. Ludwig Pastels introduced “Isenhour, Essential Alchemy” set of 60 pastels spring 2023.

JUDGE OF AWARDS: Andrew McDermott is a IAPS Eminent Pastelist, along with having achieved over 60 National and International Awards. Andrew also has had full feature articles in top art magazines such as International Artist, The Artist UK, Pastel World, Magazin'art, and the Pastel Journal. Andrew is a popular workshop Instructor and teaches Figure Drawing and Painting at Capilano University and the Vancouver Film School.
