A Community Exhibit of Roots & Culture

We are shaped by the people who raised us, the places we come from, and the traditions we carry forward.

Connections: The People and The Place is an open call to artists working in all genres to share work that reflects your background, culture, and lived experience. We invite you to reflect on questions like these:
  • Who and what has shaped you?
  • Who are you today because of what others have given you, taught you, or handed down to you?
  • How do self-definition and experience connect to this place we now share?
This exhibit honors both the long-standing ties to this land and the many paths that have brought people to Wallowa County. We welcome work that explores identity, memory, culture, belonging, and connection. Subjects might include ancestry, food traditions, handmade practices, personal histories, community stories, and contemporary interpretations of heritage. Our hope is to create a space that reflects the richness and complexity of our community.

All mediums welcome. All experiences welcome. Open to all artists.

Curator

Chantal Ivenso
Chantal Ivenso is a self-taught artist and first-time curator whose creative practice centers on fiber arts and illustration. Drawing on experiences that span multiple cultures, identities, and communities, they are fascinated by the ways people carry stories, traditions, and values across places and generations. A participant in several Josephy Center exhibits, Chantal hopes Connections: The People and The Place will encourage curiosity, conversation, and a deeper appreciation for the ties that bind communities together.
Through this exhibit, Chantal hopes visitors will discover both shared experiences and meaningful differences, leave with greater curiosity about one another, and recognize the many ways each individual helps weave the larger story of the community.

About the Gallery

The Josephy Center’s exhibit space sits inside a historic bank building styled like a wood cabin. Its soaring ceilings and warm wooden walls give artwork room to breathe. Movable walls let us reshape the gallery for each show, so every exhibit has its own character.

Our opening receptions are some of the liveliest gatherings in Wallowa County. They regularly draw 40 to 100 guests, including community members, artists, and collectors. For exhibiting artists, that means real connection with an engaged audience and potential buyers.
