Open Division
Tanya Avchinnikova is a pastel artist based in the UK, a member of The Pastel Society and Signature Artist of The Pastel Society of America. Tactile sensation, direct communication with pure pigment, freedom of applying it on surface straight away, are what Avchinnikova loves about pastel.
"There's something very intimate about it, very personal. No mediums in between, just you and pastels."
Avchinnikova paints seascapes and landscapes, focusing on closeups, as a reflection of her personal wish to be in those beautiful places.
"In my works I try to create the illusion of presence and deep unity with nature. I like to watch how the light travels on water, from wave to wave, how wind creates glare on the grass in a sunny day while moving it. I like to see the traces of 'invisible' things, catch them and paint them."
Tanya is a recipient of multiple International awards including PSA Enduring Brilliance ‘52, McKinley/Robertson Award for the Advancement of Pastel, 2024, New York and Henry Roche Award , Pastel Society , 2025, London. Tanya has a several publications in prestigious magazines and exhibits extensively in UK and us.
Julie a self-taught hyperrealist artist has refined her skills over the years, specializing in pastels.
Her dedication to realism is evident in her work, which has earned her significant recognition. She holds many prestigious titles including Master Status with the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS), Master Pastelist with the Pastel Artists of New Zealand (MPANZ) and Australia (MPSA) and she is a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA). Julie aims to create works that achieve realism beyond the photograph and when not in her studio, she seeks inspiration from the environment using her own reference images. Her diverse subject matter includes animal and wildlife portraits, coastal and nautical scenes, and native flora and fauna. More recently, she has been exploring still life compositions. Julie’s artwork has received numerous national and international awards, and her pieces are in private collections in the UK, USA, and New Zealand.
