Juror of Selection
Celebrating over 60 years in the arts, Anne Hightower-Patterson has earned national recognition for her quintessentially American watercolors. She holds the honor of being a signature member of both the American Watercolor Society—where she was a past recipient of the 2018 High Winds Medal—and the Transparent Watercolor Society. She also has memberships in the Rocky Mountain National Watercolor and various state-level organizations.
Her art collection vividly captures the essence of her Southern roots, portraying soulful African American subjects, sun-drenched landscapes, and luminous still lifes.
Born in South Carolina, Anne’s artistic journey started at the age of 12 when her school introduced art programs, sparking her creative spirit.
Anne completed her BFA in Studio Art from the University of South Carolina in 1972 and followed it up with a master’s degree in education in 1975. Retiring after 29 years in public education, she now dedicates herself full-time to her art studio, teaching workshops across South Carolina and the Southeast. Her dual background in art and education makes her an in-demand instructor and juror.
Her artwork has been showcased in the “Splash 16, 17, and 18: The Best of Watercolor” series in consecutive years from 2015 to 2017. Her piece, “Fishermen’s Tales,” appeared in Watercolor Magazine’s April 2016 issue, marking her second feature in their Watercolor Showcase.
Anne is prominently featured in the book “Her Voice: Contemporary Watermedia Masters Speak” by Laurie Goldstein-Warren.
