The Women’s Caucus for Art Carolinas presents Meeting the Moment. This juried exhibition explores that particular moment experienced by every creative that inspires them. It can be the smile received from a passerby, a fleeting butterfly landing on a freshly opened blossom, the shock of horror from a scene of a ravished bombing in a city under siege, the devastation of fire in a forest, a news item about the election, the laughter of a child on a swing, a quiet walk on a beach at sunset. It is through these moments that the artist invites the viewer to an open dialogue, to share their thoughts within that moment that touches them deeply.'

The Women’s Caucus for Art Carolinas (WCAC) is a regional chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA). The WCA was founded in 1972 in connection with the College Art Association. WCA is a national member organization unique in its multidisciplinary, multicultural membership of artists, art historians, students, educators, and museum professionals.

The mission of the Women’s Caucus for Art is to create community through art, education, and social activism. WCA is committed to recognizing the contribution of women in the arts; providing women with leadership opportunities and professional development; expanding networking and exhibition opportunities for women; supporting local, national, and global art activism; and advocating for equity in the arts for all.

The WCACarolinas was started in 2020 to support the mission of WCA in the Carolinas and surrounding states.

Juror

Meredith Connelly is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, best known for her grand-scale installations that emphasize the interplay of light, science, and technology. Connelly’s illuminated, site-specific displays – complete with interactive elements – connect and submerge viewers into glowing, otherworldly environments.

Connelly also creates complex hand-cut works on paper inspired by nature, reflective of the microscopic world, which she presses against transparent materials to resemble microscope slides.

Connelly is committed to expanding community and culture through the arts, is an advocate for equality and women in the arts, and places great emphasis on supporting emerging and underrepresented femme, BIPOC, and LQBTQIA+ artists in all stages of their careers. More recently, Connelly has been honing her curatorial process, developing, and executing art exhibitions attached to causes she is passionate about that address complex social issues through art.
