A competitive exhibition open to all Indiana photographers.

Judging and Awards

All prints will be judged and a limited number of entries will be selected by the judge for public exhibition.

Seven category awards will be presented as follows: Best People, Best Nature/Scenic, Best Animal/Wildlife, Best Architecture, Best Photojournalism, Best Digital Manipulation & Best Open. Special Merits and Honorable Mentions will be given at the discretion of the judge.

The Evelyn Riedel Memorial Award sponsored by the Harvey Riedel Family will be given as determined by people's choice. Voting by the public will take place during the open exhibition dates, and the winner will be announced at the end of the show.

Entry Fee & Payment

A non-refundable $20 entry fee is due for the submission of a single work of art, $5 is due for each additional submission up to ten works of art. AMOA members receive one free entry (two works for $20 plus $5 for each additional piece). Entry fee is due at the time of online submission.

Eligibility

The Anderson Museum of Art welcomes entries to the 44th annual IN-Focus photography exhibition.
  • IN-Focus is open to any photographer living in the state of Indiana 18 years of age or older.
  • Any work previously exhibited at AMOA is ineligible.
  • If an entered work is discovered to have been previously exhibited, it will be removed prior to judging.
  • There will be no refunds or substitutions.

Awards

Approximately $1,700 in prizes will be awarded at the show’s opening on Friday, April 4, 2025, 5–8pm.

Submission Guidelines

  • All entries must be the original work of the entering photographer.
  • Each photographer may submit up to ten entries. Categories for entry include:
    • Animal/Wildlife
    • Architecture
    • Digital manipulation
    • Nature/Scenic
    • Open
    • People
    • Photojournalism
  • Color and/or monochrome photographs will be accepted.
  • Works may be printed by the photographer or commercially.

Size & Mounting Specifications

  • Photographs must be at least a 5" x 7", no smaller. There is no maximum photograph size. 16 x 20 is recommended.
  • Photographs must be matted or mounted to a material that is at least 16" x 20".
  • There is no maximum mount size.
  • Square mounts must be at least 16" x 16".
  • Panoramic mounts must have a height of at least 12" and must be longer than 16".
  • Acceptable mounting material includes mat board, foam core, styrene, or other like material. No cardboard, poster board, metal, canvas, or wood mountings will be accepted.
  • Photographs must either go to the edge of your mount or have a window mat on top. Neutral colored mats (black, white, or grey) recommended but not required.
  • Framed work will not be accepted

Juror

Kevin Moloney photographed nearly 1,000 stories for the New York Times, scores of which appeared on page one. His work as a writer and photographer has been published by the National Geographic Society, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Time, Newsweek, US News & World Report, Stern, Paris Match, The Washington Post and scores of other international publications. He has worked as a staff photographer for four daily newspapers.

For 21 years Kevin taught photojournalism at the University of Colorado at Boulder. His students work at the top of the profession for agencies such as VII, l'Agence VU, Prospekt, and Luceo Images. They are winners of Visa pour l'Image, World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, Best of Photojournalism and other international awards. They are also recipients of Alicia Patterson, Aftermath Project, W. Eugene Smith and Getty grants for photojournalism and documentary photography. He has taught international journalism workshops in Argentina, Chile, The Falkland Islands, Myanmar (Burma) and Venezuela.

Kevin is now an Associate Professor of Emerging Media Design and Development at the Center for EMDD at Ball State University, a graduate program in socially concerned transmedia storytelling, design thinking and human-computer interaction. He holds a Ph.D. in technology, media and society from the University of Colorado's interdisciplinary ATLAS Institute.

Entry Instructions

All artworks for jurying are to be submitted online at ShowSubmit.com no later than Saturday, March 7, 2025. Please do not mail CDs or USBs.

Artists may submit up to ten works of art.

Selected art is due at the Anderson Museum of Art by Saturday, March 22, 2025 by 4pm.

Sales

All artists are encouraged to offer their artwork for sale; NFS is allowed. AMOA is solely responsible for all sales and will retain 30% of the selling price of each work sold. Artwork sold may not be removed until after the exhibition closes Saturday, May 24, 2025. Pickups may begin on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

Insurance

All accepted works will be insured while at AMOA at a value agreeable to the artist and to AMOA. AMOA will not be responsible for insuring unclaimed artwork after Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Return of Artwork

Artwork is to be picked up Tuesday through Saturday, May 27 - May 31, 2025, 10am–5pm. Artwork not picked up by Saturday, August 30, 2025, becomes the Anderson Museum of Art’s property unless prior arrangements have been made.

Agreement

Submission of artwork shall be understood to indicate agreement to abide by the rules and the decision of the juror. AMOA may photograph the artwork and use the images in publications, advertisements, or promotional materials. Artwork may not be withdrawn prior to the close of the exhibition.

Notifications will be emailed and posted in your ShowSubmit account by the end of the day on March 14, 2025.

You may view the notification in your ShowSubmit account by logging in and tapping the Notifications at the top right of the screen, or in your Entry History (Accepted works will be notated by a green check.)

If you do not receive your email, login and view the notification in your account. We cannot respond to inquiries regarding the status of notifications.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
  • Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
  • Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
  • Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
  • File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
  • File Size: There is a 30mb maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (March 7, 2025.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
