Application Fee
Signature Membership: $85

Eligibility
You do not need to be an active, regular ASMA member before applying for Signature Membership of the ASMA, though regular Members must be current on your 2024 dues before applying.

Application Requirements
  • Signature Membership applicants must submit 12 images that best represent their current body of work.
  • You will be asked to provide brief biographical information. Please include education, awards, gallery representation, and any art group affiliations.
Artwork Requirements
  • You do not need to label your images as that will be done when you upload them.
  • Fine Art mediums accepted include oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, colored pencil, pen and ink, graphite, sculpture and scrimshaw. We do not accept photography, models, glass, fiber, ceramics, cold cast bronze, digital art or other miscellaneous art categories.
  • All Sculptors must submit 2 views for each artwork.
  • Artwork must have been created within the past 10 years.
Adjudication Process
The Jurors are looking for a cohesive portfolio that best represents the artist's current work. A broad selection of themes and genres are accepted, including vessels, marine life, marshes, waterways, rivers, lakes, etc. Abstract works that evoke themes of water are accepted.

ASMA Signature Membership
  • Non Members who are accepted for Signature Membership will be required to pay the annual $100 dues. Regular Members who are accepted will be charged an additional $35 to upgrade to Signature Membership dues.
  • Each newly elected Signature Member will have the right to sign their works with the letters ASMA, after their name. They will also have of having a Signature Gallery page on the ASMA website ($15.00 per year for three images which will be selected from the portfolio you submitted to the Fellows) and a link to your personal website ($10 per year).
  • Signature Members of the Society are REQUIRED to submit at least one work for jury consideration to every ASMA National Exhibition, which take place approximately every four years. Failure to submit for any National Exhibition will result in the loss of Signature Membership status.

ASMA Fellowship
ASMA Fellowship comes with honor, but also obligations of service to the Society. Please read the information below carefully. Submitting an application means you accept these terms and understand your responsibilities:

  • Each new Fellow is asked to actively engage in Fellowship activities, such as the annual jury session held in the spring of each year, in which you can participate either online or in person, which is preferable in order to meet and engage as many Fellows as possible
  • Each new Fellow may be called upon to submit an article regarding their personal artistic techniques that will be published in the ASMA News and Journal.
  • Additionally, you will be asked to serve a three-year term on the Fellows Management Committee (FMC), first year as Deputy Managing Fellow, then as the Managing Fellow, and finally Post Managing Fellow. The FMC organizes portfolio reviews and coordinates with other ASMA Committees as necessary.
  • Signature Members who are elevated to Fellow will be billed an additional $25 to cover the difference in dues. Fellow dues are $125 annually.
  • Finally, Fellows are REQUIRED to exhibit one painting or sculpture in National Exhibitions, which are mounted roughly every four years.

Additional Notification Information

Notifications will be emailed by the end of the day on May 20, 2024. We cannot respond to inquiries regarding the status of notifications before that time.

After notifications are sent, you may view the status of your entry in your ShowSubmit artist account’s Entry History. Accepted works will be notated by a green check.

If you do not receive your email, you may also view your notification letter using the View Notification link in your Entry History.

Note: Entries made prior to 2023 may not display the View Notification link.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • Submit your original JPEG image files.
  • Crop out all parts of the photo that are not the actual work; do not show mat, frame, etc, only the work itself.
  • Image must be displayed right side up.
  • You do not need to resize your image files.
  • You do not need to rename your image files.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (April 22, 2024.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
