Overview

  • Twenty Five artists will be juried in to participate in the expanded 6-day event, painting in and around Litchfield, CT.
  • Event hosted by Plein Air Litchfield under the auspices of Art Tripping, a 501 ( c ) 3, non-profit organization formed to create community art experiences and develop educational programs nourishing creativity in and beyond Litchfield.
  • Artist housing is provided on a best efforts basis.

Eric Forstmann
Eric Forstmann studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston under the tutelage of Barnett Rubenstein and Henry Schwartz. In addition to his many solo exhibitions, he has had five one-man shows at the following institutions: The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio; The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Missouri; The Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science in Evansville, Indiana; and the Mattatuck Museum of Waterbury, Connecticut. He was also featured at the Norman Rockwell Museum in the exhibition Rockwell and Realism in an Abstract World. His work has been featured in Architectural Digest, American Art Collector, and many other publications through the years.

Litchfield Magazine named him as one of the "25 Most Influential People" in Litchfield County, Connecticut. The artist lives in Sharon, CT and works in Torrington, CT where he serves as president of the board of directors of 5 Points Art Center. He is currently represented by Eckert Fine Art in Kent, CT.

Key Painting Requirements and Info

  • All painting will take place within PAL defined boundaries and painted “en plein air”.
  • Painting from photographs and other reliance on photography is not allowed.
  • Mediums accepted: oil, watercolor, pastel, gouache.
  • Artists will be asked to paint in at least one specified location during the week.
  • Artists may choose THREE (3) pieces for hanging/judging at the show and reception.
  • All pieces must be framed and wired for hanging. No sawtooth hangers.
  • No Minimum or Maximum Retail Sale Price.
  • Maximum Canvas Size – 20 x 24 inches.
  • All paintings must be available for sale. Artist retains 60%, PAL receives 40%.
  • Off-easel, online, or gallery sales must adhere to the 60/40 commission structure and must be processed by Plein Air Litchfield.
  • Artists will attend Saturday evening’s Collectors Reception & Sale.
  • The purchase of each Collectors Reception & Sale ticket, may be applied toward the purchase of one painting.
  • Artwork created during the event must remain on display for the duration of the main exhibit show October 4th, 2025 at Alofft Gallery and unsold art must be removed by 3PM Sunday, 10/5 from the gallery.
  • RAIN: In case of rain, Artists may paint outside, under sheltered spaces, or may paint indoors at participating retailers. Artists may not paint in a studio setting.

Optional

Accepted artists may display one existing painting to sell at a specified storefront as space permits, the week prior to the event to aid event awareness. Artists will retain 60% of sales as above.

Submission of work to this event and exhibition constitutes an agreement on the part of the artist to all terms and conditions of this entire prospectus, which includes, but is not limited to, the right of Plein Air Litchfield to use entry images for publicity purposes.

Insurance and Liability: while all precautions will be taken to ensure the protection of work upon receipt, neither Plein Air Litchfield staff or volunteers nor Alofft Gallery can assume liability for any loss or damage to artwork. All unsold artworks must be retrieved from the reception venue by the artist or representative by October 5, 2025. Artists are responsible for the return of their unsold work, including the cost of shipping.

Notifications will be emailed and posted in your ShowSubmit account by the end of the day on April 30, 2025.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
  • Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
  • Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
  • Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
  • File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
  • File Size: There is a 30mb maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (April 1, 2025.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
