About the Online Show

This is American Women Artists’ annual online juried competition. It is open to all levels of AWA membership, with competition within and across categories. In addition to over 20 cash awards - including a $2,000 cash Grand Prize award - approximately 120 works selected will appear on AWA’s online gallery for a full year, be featured in our monthly E- newsletters, and promoted through AWA’s social media channels. AWA is dedicated to providing professional opportunities for women in the visual fine arts. If you are not yet an AWA member, we invite you to join as an Associate member and enter our 2023 Online Juried Show!

Eligibility

Open to all AWA Members. Pieces can be representational or abstract works either 2D or 3D. Applicants must be AWA Members of current standing with dues paid. If 2023 dues are not paid by August 31, the applicant’s work will not be considered. If you are unsure whether you have paid your 2023 dues or which membership level you are, please email: [email protected].

Entry Rules

  1. The 2023 AWA Annual Online Juried Show is open to all AWA Members in good standing.
  2. Entries may be representational or abstract work(s): drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, as well as sculpture.
  3. Work(s) must be original. 2D works must have been completed within the last two years. There is no required timeframe for 3D works. 
  4. Works do not have to be for sale. Sold works may be submitted. Enter NFS in the entry form.
  5. Applications may be submitted from July 15, 2023 – August 31, 2023, finalists will be announced by September 18, 2023.
  6. As this is an online show, there is no size restriction on work(s) submitted.
  7. All work(s) entered must not have been accepted for a previous AWA national juried museum competition or online juried show.
  8. Acceptable mediums for sculpture: cast metal, fabricated metal, stone, glass, wood, and any fired permanent medium such as terra cotta, stoneware, porcelain, earthenware.
  9. Acceptable mediums for painting: oil, acrylic, water media, pastel, egg tempera, encaustic, mixed mediums, batik.
  10. Acceptable mediums for drawing: conte crayon, colored pencil, graphite, pen & ink, scratchboard, and original hand-pulled prints.
  11. Not acceptable mediums include craft, jewelry, fiber, fabric, photography, video, digital prints including giclee, or any work containing computer generated elements of any kind.
  12. Mixed Media is acceptable using above materials.
  13. Maximum entries: three (3)
  14. Maximum of one (1) piece of artwork per accepted artist will be juried into the online show.
  15. By submitting images to this juried opportunity, you understand and agree that accepted images will be displayed on AWA website, Facebook page, and other social and/or print media. 
  16. By entering this show artists acknowledge they own copyright to the submitted work. Artists retain copyright to their image(s).
  17. By entering this exhibition, you agree that you have read and will abide by all rules outlined in this prospectus.
  18. All membership and entry fees are non-refundable.

Application

The Annual Online Juried Show application process will begin July 15, 2023 and close on August 31, 2023. Finalists will be announced no later than September 18, 2023. Entry form must be filled out in its entirety. List sizes up to the nearest inch. Submitted images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right-side-up. 3-D works are allowed to submit up to two images to show different views of artwork.

Before uploading your images, make sure they are 1920 pixels or larger on the longest side. Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. ShowSubmit will handle renaming and resizing the images for you. See Image and Filename Specifications below.

$45.00 for up to three artworks.

Additional Notification Information

Notifications will be emailed by the end of the day on September 18, 2023. We cannot respond to inquiries regarding the status of notifications before that time.

After notifications are sent, you may view the status of your entry in your ShowSubmit artist account’s Entry History. Accepted works will be notated by a green check.

If you do not receive your email, you may also view your notification letter using the View Notification link in your Entry History.

Note: Entries made prior to 2023 may not display the View Notification link.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • Submit your original JPEG image files.
  • Crop out all parts of the photo that are not the actual work; do not show mat, frame, etc, only the work itself.
  • Image must be displayed right side up.
  • You do not need to resize your image files.
  • You do not need to rename your image files.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (August 31, 2023.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
