Purpose
- To gather and recognize important new contributions to the field of contemporary marine art from around the world.
- To stimulate discussion of aesthetic and scholarly standards among marine artists and connoisseurs.
- To support the mission statement of the Center for American Marine Art
Eligibility
- Any painting, drawing, sculpture, or scratch-built ship model executed within the last two years whose theme relates to past or contemporary maritime experience of the sea and may include images of ships, yachts, coastal waterways, marshes and beaches, marine wildlife in their natural habitat, and the working boats and people whose lives and fortunes depend on the sea.
- Entries must be executed by a living artist and not previously exhibited elsewhere.
- By entering, the artist represents and warrants that the artist is and will be the sole creator of the work, that the work will not have been previously exhibited or published, and may not be exhibited on an artists’ website until the opening of the show, that the work will not infringe upon any copyright or violate any law or rights of others, that the work is free from inherent defect, and that the artist has full rights to enter into this agreement.
- The artist will indemnify and hold The Center for American Marine Art harmless from any breach of these terms.

How to Enter
Entries must include:
- a brief biography of the artist (including education, career experience, maritime experience, art exhibitions and awards. Biographical information must be in essay format. No resumes will be accepted.
- A brief written description in English on the subject, intent or creation of each work, not to exceed 150 words.
- High-quality images of submitted work(s).
- For sculpture, two images of each work is required.
Entry Fees
- A non-refundable fee of $45.00 for the first entry and $15 each for up to three additional entries.
- Up to four works may be submitted.
- The selection committee encourages more than one submission to better evaluate an emerging artist’s work and also to plan a cohesive show.
Rules
- The combined length and width of paintings, drawings, and graphics must not exceed an overall height and width of 90 inches, including frame.
- The combined length and width of sculpture must not exceed 90 inches – maximum weight 50 lbs.
- All ship models must be in a display case.
- All works entered must be available for exhibition and sale by The Center for American Marine Art.
- By entering, if the work is accepted, it remains on consignment with The Center for American Marine Art for sale at the retail price listed (commission 50%) until work has been returned to the consignor.
- The Center reserves the right to return any work not fairly represented by the images submitted.
Framing
- works must be professionally framed and wired for hanging. For International works, please provide all hardware for hanging if not already on work.
- All water medium works must have paper-backing.
- The use of museum quality or acid free materials throughout framing is mandatory to preserve the integrity of the artwork.
- Artwork will be insured by The Center for American Marine Art for 50% of the retail value from date of delivery to the Gallery until return to the entrant or delivery to the purchaser.
Shipping
- arrange for pick up or shipping of any unsold work.
- It is the responsibility of the artist to notify the gallery of a change of address for shipping.
NOTE: Please ship work in a professional shipping box such as an Air Float, otherwise damaged boxes will not be reused and the artist will be charged an additional packing fee.

Notifications will be emailed and posted in your ShowSubmit account by the end of the day on September 2, 2024.
You may view the notification in your ShowSubmit account by logging in and clicking tapping the Notifications at the top right of the screen, or in your Entry History (Accepted works will be notated by a green check.)
If you do not receive your email, login and view the notification in your account. We cannot respond to inquiries regarding the status of notifications.

Image and Filename Specifications
- File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
- Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
- Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
- Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
- File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
- File Size: There is a 30mb maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.
Additional Entry Information
- You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
- After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (August 15, 2024.)
- Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
- Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
