This is a fabulous online opportunity to enter your best work in PAO's Spirit of Pastel without the expenses involved in framing and shipping.

Juror of Acceptance and Judge of Awards

Tony Allain, PS, RSMA, PSA, IAPS/MC, MPANZ, IAPS/EP

Tony Allain is an internationally acclaimed award-winning painter, teacher, author, and member of the Pastel Society of America, member of the Master Circle of the international Association of Pastel Societies, and a Master of the Pastel Artists of New Zealand.

Awards: Cash and Material Awards!

There are two categories for awards:

Emerging Pastel Artists:
Anyone who has not yet attained signature membership status in ANY pastel society or has not won an award in ANY pastel societies’ INTERNATIONAL OPEN EXHIBITION.

Established Artists:
Anyone who has achieved Signature, Master, or Eminent membership status in ANY pastel society, including PAO.
Entering in the wrong category will result in disqualification. No refunds will be made. If you have a question regarding which category to enter, contact Peggy Braeutigam at [email protected].
  • Cash Awards in Each Category, Emerging and Established: $5,200 total
  • Best of Show $900
  • First Place $700
  • Second Place $500
  • Third Place $300
  • Lora Block Award $200
  • Merchandise Honorable Mention amounts TBA in EACH category
Artists entering from foreign countries are required to have a PayPal account or accept credit card payments if an award is granted.

Eligible Work

  • Open to all artists over the age of 18;
  • Photo-based paintings must be from photos taken by the artists themselves
  • All paintings must be original, developed from the artist’s original reference and composition;
  • Paintings of nudes will be considered for acceptance;
  • All works submitted must be 80% dry pastel; no oil pastel will be considered
  • Work previously accepted in any previous PAO exhibition or any work that has won an award in any other pastel only exhibition is not eligible.
  • Work must not be shown concurrently in any online or virtual exhibition.
  • Failure to meet any of the requirements for eligibility may result in the artwork not being juried;
PAO reserves the right to exclude from exhibitions any artwork deemed offensive, or any artwork that violates the laws of the United States, or of state or local governments.

Entry Fees

  • PAO members: $40 for 2 entries; $10 each additional entry, up to 4 images total
  • Non-members: $50 for 2 entries; $10 each additional entry, up to 4 images total
  • Payment through showsubmit.com only.
Entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid by the entry deadline. Acceptance is not guaranteed.

Sales

Work may be for sale; NFS is allowed.

Purchasers will be given the Artist’s contact information. Artists will handle the sales and shipping.

Entering Images

  • Entry form must be filled out in its entirety, including mailing address, state zip code, country, phone and email.
  • List size of image itself to the nearest inch. Crop photo to include the image only: no mats or frames, and be certain your image is right side up.

Legal Disclaimer

Accepted images may be used by the Pastel Artists of Oregon for promotional purposes. Entry into this exhibition constitutes agreement with this understanding.

Additional Notification Information

Notifications will be emailed by the end of the day on May 3, 2024. We cannot respond to inquiries regarding the status of notifications before that time.

After notifications are sent, you may view the status of your entry in your ShowSubmit artist account’s Entry History. Accepted works will be notated by a green check.

If you do not receive your email, you may also view your notification letter using the View Notification link in your Entry History.

Note: Entries made prior to 2023 may not display the View Notification link.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • Submit your original JPEG image files.
  • Crop out all parts of the photo that are not the actual work; do not show mat, frame, etc, only the work itself.
  • Image must be displayed right side up.
  • You do not need to resize your image files.
  • You do not need to rename your image files.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (April 24, 2024.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
