Eligibility

  • Open to all PSA members who have an up-to-date membership. Apply for membership by April 8, 2024, to be eligible to submit paintings to the exhibition.
  • The PSA Annual must be the first significant showing of each artwork. Paintings may not have been accepted in any previous major pastel or sponsored exhibition, online exhibition, or published competition before the PSA opening September 3, 2024.
  • Accepted artwork may not be exhibited concurrently in other shows, including virtual shows.
  • Works must be in soft pastel—no oil pastels. Mixed media must be predominantly soft pastel.
  • The artwork’s final surface must be 80% traditional soft pastel.
  • Work must be original and from your reference, not copied from other artists or published materials.
  • Any reference an instructor provides is not eligible, including an instructor-provided photo, still-life setup, or model setup.
  • Work done in a classroom, workshop, or online group scenario is not eligible.
  • All artwork must be initially drawn and not created on top of any photographic image.
  • There are no size limitations for this exhibition.
  • All subjects and styles, from traditional realism to contemporary abstraction, are eligible.
  • Artwork sent to the show must be the same piece as the photo submitted.
  • Artwork must have been created in the past four years.
  • Artwork must be for sale, no NFS or POR.
Please meet all eligibility requirements to ensure the artwork is not disqualified. PSA reserves the right to exclude from the exhibition any artwork deemed offensive or any artwork that violates the laws of the United States.

Foreign Entries

We ask that all artists submit their applications individually. Entries submitted through an international or national art broker or by a second party will be disqualified and not processed.

As a result, all award payments will be paid directly to the artist through their individual PayPal account. No award payments will be made to second-party accounts. Cash awards are made only via PayPal. Material awards cannot be shipped to international addresses.

Entry Fees

  • PSA members: flat fee of $50 for 1, 2, or 3 entries.
  • Entry fee is non-refundable.
Your 2024 annual dues must be paid in full to enter as a PSA member. ShowSubmit will no longer process member dues at the time of entry. You must complete the membership dues transaction through the PSA website at pastelsocietyofamerica.org

Online Entry

Entry is online only. Follow the directions for entry. Payment can be made with a valid credit or debit card. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.

Notification

Up to 3 entries may be submitted. One painting per artist will be accepted for the exhibition. All artists will receive a notification by email after jurying is complete. Please add [email protected] to your safe senders list to ensure email delivery.

Accepted Work

Artists of accepted work will receive an exhibition label by email. The title must be filled in entirely and affixed to the back of the painting in the upper right corner. Images submitted must be identical to the accepted JPEG. No substitutions are permitted.

Your entry in this exhibition also constitutes an agreement for reproduction rights for this exhibition and PSA promotional use. Submission of entry constitutes agreement that the exhibition chair has the final decision for all aspects of the exhibition, including eligibility.

Jurors and Judge

A panel of three jurors will select the entries to be accepted for the exhibition, and a judge of awards will choose the awards.

Judge of Awards

Jeremiah William McCarthy is the Chief Curator of The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He joined The Westmoreland after collaborating with The Pocantico Center of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, where he is guest curating the inaugural exhibition of the campus’s new David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center. He co-organizes Inspired Encounters: Women Artists and the Legacies of Modern Art (2022–23), the inaugural exhibition of the campus’s new David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center in Tarrytown, NY.

Before his work for The Fund, he served as curator at the National Academy of Design and associate curator at the American Federation of Arts. Major exhibitions he has organized or co organized include For America: Paintings from the National Academy of Design (2019–22), which traveled to eight museums in all five regions of the United States, and Women Artists in Paris, 1850–1900 (2017–18; with Laurence Madeline and Suzanne Ramljak), which was awarded “Best Painting Show of 2018” by The Boston Globe.

Jurors of Selection

Pennsylvanian Kristin Divers PSA-MP will serve as lead juror and curator. Kristin received her BA in Psychology and her MA in Art Psychotherapy, with additional concentrations in studio art. She is a PSA Master Pastelist and serves on the PSA Governor Emeritus Board. She is a past PSA Board of Governors Executive Committee member, serving as the Corresponding Secretary. Kristin developed and curated the innovative PSA online exhibition program, including the monthly PSA Member Showcase Eblast Exhibitions. For six years Kristin served on the PSA membership jury.

Kristin lives in Pittsburgh, PA. Her current body of work features heavy industry from the Midwest and Southern parts of the US. She has exhibited in The National Arts Club and The Salmagundi Club in New York, The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio, and several galleries in Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, and Chicago. Her steel mill paintings have also been featured in the Pastel Journal.


Cristine Kossow PSA-MP lives in the Champlain Valley of Vermont. A Parsons-trained illustrator, she had a long career in graphic design. She served two terms on the Board of Governors. In 2019, she earned Master Circle status in the International Association of Pastel Societies and Signature Status with the Pastel Society of New Hampshire.

She has exhibited at The Salmagundi Club and The National Arts Club in NYC; The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio; and galleries in New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire. In April 2020, she was published in Pastel Journal/Pastel 100, which presents the 100 best pastel paintings worldwide.

Cristine has won the Pastel Societies of the MidAtlantic Award, Pastel Societies of the Southwest Award, HK Holbein Award, and M. H. Hurlimann-Armstrong Award in the Pastel Society of Amer ica’s Annual Exhibition Enduring Brilliance!

Cristine’s curatorial experience includes serving for six years on the PSA membership jury and, more recently, advising in vetting the works selected for the PSA Member Showcase Exhibitions.

Georgia resident Margaret Dyer PSA-MP has received significant awards from the Pastel Society of America, the American Impressionist Society, and the National Oil and Acrylics Society. She is in the Master's Circle in IAPS, and she is a Member of Excellence in the Southeastern Pastel Soci ety. Her work has been published many times in American Artist, International Artist, The Artist's Magazine, and Pastel Journal.

She has juried shows for IAPS, the Degas Pastel Society, the Pastel Society of the West Coast, the Pastel Society of Eastern Canada, the Pastel Journal “Pastel 100,” Pastel Society of North Florida, and the Southeastern Pastel Society.

A native New Yorker, Margaret's family moved from Long Island in 1960 to Atlanta, GA, where she lives and works today. She has made her living for over 30 years, selling her work and teaching across the USA, Canada, France, and Italy.

  • Submit your original JPEG image files.
  • Crop out all parts of the photo that are not the actual work; do not show mat, frame, etc, only the work itself.
  • Image must be displayed right side up.
  • You do not need to resize your image files.

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (June 3, 2024.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
