Up to $4000 in awards

Eligibility

Open to all pastel artists. All subjects and styles are eligible except for erotic and overtly political statements. Works must be original design and composition, not copied from another artist’s work, not painted in a class or workshop under instructor supervision. If painted from a photograph, must be artist’s own photo.

Work must be completed after January 2020 and be 80% soft pastels. No oil pastel.

All work must be for sale; no NFS or POR allowed. No price changes allowed after entry submission. Size limit, including frame, is 40 inches in either direction.

Work must be clean, securely framed and ready to hang. No sawtooth hangers allowed. Gallery framing standards are expected. If mats are used, neutral colors only.

Entry Fee

  • PSME Member fees: 1 to 2 images $35; 3 images $40 (with PSME membership dues current)
  • Non-member fees: 1 to 2 images $45; 3 images $50
No CDs or emailed images will be accepted. Each artist may submit up to three entries. Acceptance of a maximum of 2 pieces into the show by any one artist.

Work must not have been shown in any previous PSME competition. Work must not have received awards in any juried pastel event.

Entry fees are not refundable and must be paid by the entry deadline.

Incomplete entries will be disqualified.

Sales

Work must be for sale; NFS is not allowed.

No price changes allowed after entry submission. 30% commission to PSME

Hand-Delivered Artwork

Must arrive at the Saco Museum August 22, 2022, 10 am - 12pm.
Delivered artwork must be identical to the accepted jpeg, no substitutions are permitted. Entrants failing to deliver accepted artwork are denied eligibility in PSME International Juried Exhibitions “Pastels Only” for 2 years following the 2022 show.

Shipped Work

Detailed shipping instructions will be sent with acceptance notifications, August 1, 2022.
Shipped paintings must arrive at Saco Museum by August 20, 2022. Include with shipped artwork a $ 15 check for handling, made out to PSME, a return shipping label, and completed shipping form & painting ID labels, as stipulated with shipping instructions, TBD.

Artwork Removal

Saturday October 22, 2022, 10pm - noon
Liability: All paintings will receive careful handling by competent staff. However, the Saco Museum, the Pastel Society of Maine, or anyone connected with the exhibition cannot be held responsible for loss or damage to any painting submitted for exhibition. All work submitted is subject to this condition. Your online entry submission constitutes acknowledgement & acceptance of this disclaimer. PSME recommends artists carry their own insurance.

Additional Notification Information

Notifications will be emailed and posted in your ShowSubmit account by the end of the day on August 1, 2022.

You may view the notification in your ShowSubmit account by logging in and tapping the Notifications at the top right of the screen, or in your Entry History (Accepted works will be notated by a green check.)

If you do not receive your email, login and view the notification in your account. We cannot respond to inquiries regarding the status of notifications.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
  • Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
  • Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
  • Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
  • File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
  • File Size: There is a 30mb maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (July 22, 2022.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
