Eligibility

  • This competition is open to all artists, 18 years of age and over, who presently live in Indiana or Ohio.
  • Works must be original, completed in the last two years, and not previously exhibited in the Richmond Art Museum Annual Exhibition.
  • Accepted works may NOT be withdrawn by the artist prior to the close of the exhibition and must abide by specifications below.
  • Both 2-D and 3-D works are eligible, including drawing, printmaking, mixed media, painting, photography, fiber arts, clay, jewelry, sculpture, wood and glass.
  • Works must be original art produced by the submitting artist completed in 2024-2025.
  • No AI generated artwork.
  • Advanced division artists’ works cannot have been executed in class or under supervision of an instructor.

Jurors

Uranchimeg (Orna) Tsultemin is the Edgar and Dorothy Fehnel Chair in International Studies and Associate Professor at Indiana University’s Herron School of Art and Design. She received her Ph.D. in East Asian and Himalayan art history from University of California, Berkeley.

Malcolm Mobutu Smith is an Associate Professor of Ceramic Art at Indiana University Bloomington. He earned his MFA from the New York College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 1996 and studied at both the Kansas City Art Institute and Penn State University, receiving his BFA in ceramics in 1994.

Brad Davis is a Resident Instructor of Painting and Drawing at Manifest Drawing Center in Cincinnati, and instructor at the University of Cincinnati, School of Design. He received his MFA from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Specifications

  • Each artist may submit a maximum of two works.
  • All works must be maintenance-free.
  • No entry may exceed 60 inches in any direction, including frame, or exceed 50 pounds in weight.

Entry fees are non-refundable.

Framing

All wall-hung work must be properly framed. Frames without securely attached wire cannot be hung on our wall and will not be accepted. Vertical D Rings are the preferred hardware for hanging in the new RAM galleries. We will not be responsible for works damaged through faulty wiring or framing.
  • Use flat strap wires only (no cleats, saw-tooth or clip frame hangers).
  • Works on paper must be glazed (glass or plexiglass).

Insurance and Liability

RAM will provide insurance on all works while at the museum for the listed sale price. Values must be based on actual retail sales, subject to a maximum of $5,000 for any one item. RAM will not assume liability for loss or damage during transit to and from the museum.

Sales

All works in advanced division must be for sale.

The Richmond Art Museum will retain a 30% commission. Prices listed on the entry form must reflect this commission. Purchase Awards will be paid at 70% of the listed price. Prices of accepted works may not change.

Amateur Division

Amateur artists are encouraged to enter the Amateur Division of the 127th Annual Exhibition by Indiana and Ohio Artists. Entry requirements are the same as listed above, however, works completed under supervision are eligible. An amateur is defined as an artist who is in their early stages of development, or whose motivation is basically recreational. Artists whose works have been previously accepted into the Advanced Division are not eligible for the Amateur Division.

Notification of Jury Decisions

RAM will list notifications of acceptance on the RAM Facebook and RAM website as well as email notifications on Friday, September 26, 2025. The email listed in your ShowSubmit account will be used as the primary form of contact for notification.

Notifications will be emailed and posted in your ShowSubmit account by the end of the day on September 26, 2025.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
  • Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
  • Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
  • Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
  • File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
  • File Size: There is a 30mb maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (September 5, 2025.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
