General Information

  • Up to 5 paintings can be submitted per artist. 
  • A maximum of 2 paintings per artist can be accepted into the exhibition; however, there is no guarantee that a painting will be accepted.  
  • Paintings submitted do not have to be for sale.
  • The entry fee for Members for 2 images: $35; Non-Member fee for 2 images is $50. $10 for additional images up to 5. 
  • Members must be current with SPS 2023 dues. New members must join prior to submitting to exhibit.

Awards

Total cash awards are $5300

  • Best in Show - $1,000
  • First Place - $750 
  • Second Place - $500 
  • Third Place - $350 
  • Six Honorable Mentions - $75 each. 
  • 5 Awards of $300 each for Exceptional Merit, one per category
  • 5 Awards of $150 each for Merit, one per category
The category of entry for a painting is to be selected by the artist when entering painting information on ShowSubmit.

Categories to be selected are:

  • Landscape
  • Portrait/Figure
  • Still Life/Floral
  • Animal/Wildlife
  • Abstract/Non-Objective
Only one award is allowed per artist.

Eligibility

  • Open to all SPS current members. Membership can be renewed prior to entering at: southeasternpastel.com/join
  • Paintings cannot have appeared in any previous SPS Members’ or SPS National or SPS International Exhibitions.
  • The surface of the painting must be at least 80% soft pastel. 
  • No size limit in the virtual exhibition.
  • Artwork cannot be more than 3 years old, nor painted under supervision of an instructor or worked on in a class or copied from published photos. 
Other factors to consider when choosing your submissions for this show:

  • If the outcome of the painting has been significantly and unduly influenced by another artist’s work, the jurors may consider the painting to be ineligible. 
  • Works that appear to duplicate a painting previously accepted into an SPS show may be ineligible. 
  • SPS encourages artists to enter new paintings. We recommend that you submit work that has not been included in a national show during the last 24 months and has not won an award in any previous exhibition. 
  • We ask that you not submit your entries into shows that will be running concurrently.

Entry Fee

  • Members: $35 for up to 2 images, 
    $10 for each additional image up to 5 images
  • Non-Members: $50 for up to 2 images, 
    $10 for each additional image up to 5 images

Entry fees are non-refundable.  

Sales

Paintings submitted DO NOT have to be for sale. Any sales enquiries will be directed to the artist to arrange the sale and shipping. No commission will be required, however a 10% donation will be gratefully appreciated if your work sells during this exhibition. 

Juror of Selection and Awards

Aline Ordman, AIS, OPA, PSAM, IAPS/EP

Aline received her BFA at Cornell University and continued her training at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, earning a degree in Illustration.

“My goal as an artist is to find those times and places where beauty is not only evident, but startling and suddenly present.”

Aline is a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America, a Signature Member of  the American Impressionist Society, a signature member of the Oil Painters of America  and an Eminent Pastelist with the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS). She has juried the Pastel Society of America's National Juried show; The Pastel Journal's Top 100 Animal and Wildlife Competition, the Pastel Society of New Mexico's  Annual Juried Show and the Adirondack Plein Air Festival Awards.

She was featured in an article in the February issue of the Pastel Journal and has won awards in the Top 100 Pastels in the Pastel Journal. Aline has won several awards in  the Annual Juried Shows of the Pastel Society of America. Other juried national shows of acceptance are the American Impressionist Society and the Oil Painters of America. Aline teaches workshops throughout the country and in Europe. She is represented by Camden Falls Gallery in Camden, Maine; Blue Heron Gallery in Wellfleet, MA; Brickhouse Gallery, VT; Little Gallery in Mackinac, MI. Her website is alineordman.com

Failure to Deliver & Previously Accepted Policy

Failure to meet any of the requirements for eligibility may result in the artwork not being juried. Artwork submitted and accepted into this show that has been shown in a previous SPS exhibition will be rejected. SPS reserves the right to exclude from exhibitions any artwork deemed offensive, or any artwork that violates the laws of the United States, or of state or local governments. 

Paintings that have been juried into previous SPS shows and are identified before jurying of this show will be rejected and the artist cannot replace the painting(s). Duplicate painting(s) identified after jurying will remain in the exhibition but will not be eligible for any award.

Notifications will be emailed and posted in your ShowSubmit account by the end of the day on October 31, 2023.

You may view the notification in your ShowSubmit account by logging in and tapping the Notifications at the top right of the screen, or in your Entry History.

If you do not receive your email, login and view the notification in your account. We cannot respond to inquiries regarding the status of notifications.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
  • Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
  • Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
  • Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
  • File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
  • File Size: There is a 30mb maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (October 16, 2023.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
