The 2025 TPS Juried Exhibition will be displayed on the TPS Website,
tucsonpastelsociety.org. This is an online exhibition only and no work will be
shipped.

Awards

1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, Judge’s Award, Award of Merit (3), a total of over $3000 cash and merchandise.

Eligibility

Open to all artists.

Eligible Work

Please read carefully to make sure your work meets the following entry requirements.
  • Works must be in dry pastel. No oil pastels. Mixed media must be predominantly dry pastel.
  • The top layer of the painting should be at least 80% dry application of pastel.
  • Work must be original, not copied from other artists or published materials and from your own reference. Any reference provided by an instructor is not eligible, including an instructor- provided photo, still life setup or model setup.
  • All work must be original pastel paintings completed in the last two years (2022 – 2024) and not previously shown in a national or international exhibition or show. Work that was entered but not accepted into a previous national or international show may be entered again, provided it meets prospectus requirements.
  • Paintings of nudes will be considered for acceptance.
  • Work may be for sale. NFS is acceptable.
  • Failure to meet any of the requirements for eligibility may result in the artwork not being juried.
  • TPS reserves the right to exclude from exhibitions any artwork deemed offensive, or any artwork that violates the laws of the United States, or of state or local governments.

Entry Fee

  • Members: $45.00 for the first 3 images and $10.00 for each additional image for members.
  • Non-Members: $55.00 for the first 3 images and $10.00 for each additional image for non-members.
  • Up to 5 images may be submitted by an individual artist.
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be paid by the entry deadline.

Notification

Although 5 entries may be submitted, no more than one per artist will be accepted for the exhibition. Paintings will be selected for the exhibition by the Juror, Nanci King-Mertz. All Artists will receive notification by email when the jurying and judging are complete. Please add [email protected] to your safe senders list to ensure email delivery.

Notice of Payment of Awards

All award recipients will be paid by PayPal transfer. If you are unable to accept payment by this method, you should consider the award a donation to TPS.

Entry Procedures for Artists Outside the United States

Use the same entry procedures listed above. All payments are in USD. Shipping of sold paintings will be the financial and logistical responsibility of the artist.

Sales

Sales are the responsibility of the artist. A 10% donation to TPS will be accepted on all sales through the Website.

Judge of Entries

Nanci King-Mertz, Master & Eminent Pastelist
Nancie has spent her lifetime painting in oil & pastel. She was awarded the Master Circle by Int’l Assoc. of Pastel Societies, Eminent Pastelist in 2018, and is a Master Signature member of Pastel Society of America, Degas Pastel Society & Chicago Pastel Painters. She has been a member of The Palette & Chisel of Fine Arts since 1988 and Plein air Painters since 2003–both based in Chicago.

Nancie juries, demos & teaches numerous workshops across the US, Italy, France & Croatia. She is on the faculty for the Plein Air Convention, Plein Air South, and the IAPS Convention. IAPS awarded her the Prix de Pastel in 2018. She was the lead juror for the 2019 IAPS Masters’ Show and juried the 2022 PSA Enduring Brilliance Exhibition.

Her work has been featured in Plein Air Magazine, Southwest Art, American Artist, French & Chinese magazines, as well as the cover and several articles in Pastel Journal. She has traveled to over 20 countries to paint.

Judge of Awards

Liz Haywood-Sullivan
Liz is a landscape artist dedicated to painting in the pastel medium. Her award-winning paintings are exhibited and collected around the world. In 1996, she left the design world to follow her passion for fine art and since then has worked as a dedicated professional artist, art educator, and arts advocate.

From 2013 to 2017, Liz was President of the International Association of Pastel Societies, where she managed 3 international conventions and 12 international exhibitions. She is on the Board of Advisors for The Pastel Journal. She has earned Master Pastelist status with the Pastel Society of America and has Master Circle and Eminent Pastelist designations with IAPS. Her paintings have appeared in art magazines around the world, and she appears in 12 Artist Network videos, and in numerous books, including authoring the popular instructional book Painting Brilliant Skies and Water in Pastel (Northlight Books, 2013.) Her instruction can currently be found online at epiphanyfineart.com.

In addition to her painting, Liz’s current schedule includes teaching workshops nationally and internationally, along with judging and demonstrating for numerous pastel societies and art organizations. In 2016, She was invited to be a featured artist, instructor, and speaker at the Second International Biennial Pastel Exhibition in Suzhou, China. And in 2018, she was the keynote demonstrator and a faculty artist for the Pastel Society of Australia’s First Pastel Expo. Her artwork is represented by Vose Galleries of Boston, the oldest family-owned gallery in the United States.

Image and Filename Specifications

  • Submit your original JPEG image files.
  • Crop out all parts of the photo that are not the actual work; do not show mat, frame, etc, only the work itself.
  • Image must be displayed right side up.
  • You do not need to resize your image files.
  • You do not need to rename your image files.

Additional Entry Information

  • You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
  • After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (January 15, 2025.)
  • Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
  • Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
