About the Location and Jurors
Virginia Highlands has a rich and interesting history as one of the first suburbs in Atlanta. Our store and the neighboring buildings on our block were constructed in 1900, and have housed many shops and businesses prior to becoming the home of VaHi Books in June 2021. Sandra Huff, owner and selected staff will advise on the final selections for the exhibition.
Guidelines
- This exhibition opportunity is by invitation and based on the artist’s participation in recent group painting sessions with VHPAP.
- Artist may submit (2) two pieces of art for the jurors’ consideration
- Artist may have 2 paintings accepted
- Art should feature summer scenes such as : summer vacation at the beach, marsh, lake… relaxation, summer activities. Also consider favorite spots in and around Atlanta where residents tend to visit in full bloom such as outside cafes, gardens. Virginia Highland district. Customers at the bookstore often resonate with recognizable scenes and landmarks.
- Maximum artwork/image size may not exceed 16x20, plus frame
- All mediums, except photography, are acceptable, no wet paintings
- Paintings must have been created within the past two years
- Works must be original, painted from life or from your own reference photo or imagination, not copied from other artists or published materials. Any reference provided by an instructor is not eligible, including an instructor-provided photo, still-life set up or model setup.
- Work that was done in a classroom, workshop, or in an online group scenario is not eligible.
- Work must be for sale. Prices cannot be changed after the submission deadline. 20% commission will go to Virginia Highland Bookstore
Entry Fees
Framing Requirements:
- For paintings: stretched canvas or surfaces less than 1 inch in depth must be framed. Unframed canvas over 1 inch should have finished, painted sides. Exposed canvas or staples are not permitted. Frames must be wired with d-rings and wire on the back for hanging. No sawtooth hangers or eye hooks.
- For works on paper: matted or mounted on white, off-white or cream mat board with a sturdy backing board. Works on paper should not touch the glass. Suggest using linen tape for mounting artwork. Frames must be wired with d-rings and wire on the back for hanging. No sawtooth hangers or eye hooks.
- Place a label on the back of your painting to include: your name, name of painting, medium, size, price
Sales
Virginia Highland Bookstore will process all sales of artwork. Upon the sale of a painting, the artist will be given the opportunity to fill that spot with another painting of their choice. Checks will be available for pick up at the store at the end of each month, minus a 20% commission.

Notifications will be emailed and posted in your ShowSubmit account by the end of the day on May 18, 2023.
You may view the notification in your ShowSubmit account by logging in and clicking tapping the Notifications at the top right of the screen, or in your Entry History (Accepted works will be notated by a green check.)
If you do not receive your email, login and view the notification in your account. We cannot respond to inquiries regarding the status of notifications.

Image and Filename Specifications
- File Format: Submit original, high-quality JPEG image files. Other formats (e.g., PNG, TIFF) are not accepted.
- Crop Your Image: Ensure only the artwork itself is visible in the image. Do not show any visible matting, frames, or background distractions.
- Orientation: Make sure your image is oriented correctly (right side up) so that the artwork appears in its intended viewing direction.
- Image Size: You do not need to resize your image files before uploading. The system will automatically resize them. Smaller images cannot be enlarged to meet the requirements, so ensure your images are high resolution before uploading.
- File Names: You do not need to rename your files before uploading them. The system will handle any file naming requirements.
- File Size: There is a 30mb maximum file size limit. Larger image files will take longer to upload and process.
Additional Entry Information
- You will pay for your entry by credit or debit card using our secure checkout system.
- After your entry is submitted and paid for, you may log back in to review your entry, edit artist and image information, and add or substitute images up until the entry deadline (May 15, 2023.)
- Entry fees are not refundable and must be submitted and paid by the entry deadline.
- Entries cannot be accepted or changed after the deadline. Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
