September 17, 2019 - Midnight PDT - deadline for online submission of entries

October 12 - Notice of acceptance emailed

November 1 - Awards notification

November 1 - show posted on IAPS website

Work Eligible

Open to any artist who has an up-to-date membership with an IAPS Member Society. Upon acceptance, artists will be required to show proof of membership (membership card, cancelled check, or email from society president). A current list of IAPS member societies can be viewed at

Please read carefully to make sure your work meets the following entry requirements.
  • Works must be in dry pastel, with the final surface a minimum of 80% dry pastel.
  • No oil pastels. Mixed media must be predominantly (80%) dry pastel.
  • Work must be original, not copied from other artists or published materials.
  • All artwork must be originally drawn and not created on top of a base photo or print.
  • All work must have been created within the last two years.
  • Paintings of nudes will be considered for acceptance.
  • Works done under supervision (such as in a workshop or class) are not eligible.
  • Works that appear to duplicate, or be closely derivative of, a painting previously accepted into an IAPS show, and done by the same artist, will not be eligible.
  • Work may not have been accepted in any previous IAPS Exhibition or Webshow. This does not include work accepted into IAPS Member Society shows.

Failure to meet any of the requirements for eligibility may result in the artwork not being juried.

Artwork submitted and accepted into this show that is found to have been shown in a previous IAPS exhibition will be rejected and one honors point will be taken from the point total of the Artist. If this is a second infraction, the Artist will receive a two-year ban on entering future IAPS shows.

IAPS reserves the right to exclude from exhibitions any artwork deemed offensive, or any artwork that violates the laws of the United States, or of state or local governments.

Image Specifications

All images must be high quality jpeg (jpg) image files. Set your camera to the highest possible quality image, use good lighting on your painting without any glass in front of it, and use a tripod for your camera. Once the photo is taken, you must crop out all parts of the photo that are not the actual painting; do not show mat, frame, etc, only the painting itself. Please save at 300 dpi resolution, with a size of 900 pixels on the longer side of the image (i.e. for a horizontal format, the width should be 900 pixels; for vertical format, the height will be 900 pixels; for a square format both dimensions are 900 pixels.). The upload system will not accept very large files, so you must reduce the native image size to these specifications.

Image size requirements have been changed from prior IAPS exhibitions!

Please consult the prospectus if you need guidance with your image preparation.

Prepare your images using these specifications BEFORE you start the entry process!

Filename Instructions

Name your image files

Use the following protocol for giving your image file a name for submission: Start with your last name, followed by an underscore, followed by your first initial, followed by another underscore, then the title of the image without spaces, then make sure it has the extension ".jpg".

For example: Carson_R_SilentSpring.jpg.

Shorten long titles in the filename, please, and remove all spaces and quotation marks.

On the entry form in the box for Title do enter the actual title of the piece as you would want it to appear in the show catalogue.

For example: Silent Spring
